Continental Shipyard Limited is a ship building, and ship repair yard. It also carries out a lot of fabrication, all these requires a lot of safety precautions and as much as preventing them from occurring.  In view of the above the management has put in some policies to guard it in its operations which are:-

SAFETY, HEALTH AND ENVIRONMENTAL POLICY.

Continental Shipyard Ltd, a Ship building, repairs and offshore construction division activities shall be planned and executed in such a way as to: -

-  Ensure good community relations and liaison making life more meaningful and comfortable to the inhabitants of the community in which they operate.

-  Avoid injury and pursue the safety and Health of its employees, those of its contractors and any member of the public that could be affected.

-  Minimize the impact on Environment in which Continental Shipyard operates.

-  Ensure the security of life and property of its employees, those of the contractors and members of the public.

-  Every Continental Shipyard Ltd employee must plan and perform his or her duties in   accordance with this policy; activities must be suspended when any employee believes that their work cannot be continued in accordance with this policy.

It is their responsibility to report this immediately to their direct supervisor.

ENVIRONMENTAL POLICY

The Environmental policy of Continental Shipyard Ltd is to formulate and implement procedures, which avoid adverse impact on our environment, and to investigate those impacts, which are unavoidable. This policy also strives to conserve and enhance whenever possible the resources of our environment.

It’s the company’s policy to

- Comply with all applicable Nigerian National environmental laws and regulations

- Maintain a self-monitoring programme to ensure continued compliance

- Assist all levels of government in the promulgation and revision of environmental protection regulations based on scientific facts that are economically and Operational feasible.

- Assume that the expense of environmental protection is a legitimate cost of conducting business in a modern society

- Achieve environmental protection by employing the best control mechanisms, processes and procedures which have been proven technically sound and economical feasible.

- Train our employees to be aware of the impact of their assignment on the environmental protection at their level.

It is the goal of Continental Shipyard Ltd to make the company’s activities harmonious with the environment as it exists. Our environmental philosophy is explicit; no task will be undertaken unless it can be accomplished in an environmentally sound manner and in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.

Compromising environmental Laws in company or Sub-Contractor operations will not be tolerated.    It is expected that all company and Sub-contractor employees will actively support this environmental policy and accept environmental protection as an integral part of his or her responsibility.

SUBSTANCE ABUSE POLICY

Continental Shipyard Ltd has a policy on drug and alcohol abuse. Under this policy, alcohol impairment shall be defined as blood alcohol content of 40mg of alcohol per 100ml of blood or greater.

All employees of Continental Shipyard Ltd may be subject to drug/Alcohol testing and screening at random and without warning in addition to routine medical examinations.

An objective of the policy is that the frequency of the random/unannounced testing shall be adequate to act as an effective deterrent and that all employees be tested a minimum of once a year through either random testing or routine medical examination.

It is understood that an actual impairment or any test finding of impairment shall not in itself mean that Continental Shipyard Ltd has failed to exercise due diligence.

Continental Shipyard Ltd acknowledge the importance of non-alcohol/drug abuse in the safety and efficiency of its operations, therefore compliance forms an integral part of all daily activities. Search for and seizure of drugs and alcohol may be against individual employees or Continental Shipyard Ltd property and in any event shall be unannounced.

In addition Continental Shipyard Ltd affirms that any imposed Clients drug, alcohol and search policy general requirements shall be complied with
